FAQs

Locating Bearings FAQs

What are locating bearings in rolling mills?

Locating bearings control axial movement of the roll or shaft and carry the axial loads assigned to them within the bearing arrangement. CHG groups suitable thrust bearings and large-size ball bearings under this category.

Can all locating bearings carry axial loads in both directions?

No. Directional capability depends on the design. Some bearings support one direction only; reversing loads may require a double-direction design or an appropriate bearing arrangement.

What size range and custom options are available?

Availability depends on bearing type, series and operating conditions. Send a bearing number or drawing for size confirmation and a review of custom options.

Which bearing types are included?

The range includes cylindrical roller thrust, deep groove ball, double row angular contact ball, four-point contact ball, spherical roller thrust, tapered roller thrust and thrust ball bearings.

Is a separate radial bearing required?

It depends on the bearing type and load allocation. Cylindrical roller thrust bearings and thrust ball bearings require separate radial support. Combined-load bearings must still be checked against their permitted load conditions.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide the bearing number or dimensions, quantity, mill type, roll position, axial load and direction, speed and lubrication. A drawing of the complete locating arrangement helps selection.
