Super Thin Section Four-point Contact Ball Bearings Overview

CHG Super Thin Section Four-point Contact Ball Bearings use a Type X raceway geometry and Conrad assembly. The internal geometry creates four potential contact points, enabling one bearing to support radial load, bidirectional thrust load and moment load, individually or in any combination.

The cross section remains nearly constant as bore diameter increases, helping designers enlarge hollow shafts or cable passages without a proportional increase in bearing envelope and mass. In many compact mechanisms, a single Type X bearing can replace a two-bearing arrangement, reducing axial space, mass and assembly complexity.

Multiple-load Capability

Type X is intended for applications involving multiple loads. Its four-point contact geometry can carry radial load, thrust load in either direction and moment load. When loads act simultaneously, internal load distribution and contact stress depend strongly on bearing fit, preload or clearance, and the rigidity of the shaft and housing.

  1. Define radial load, axial load magnitude and direction, moment, duty cycle and target life.
  2. Calculate radial, bidirectional thrust and moment loads, including their combined action.
  3. Control shaft and housing roundness, flatness and fit; thin rings are sensitive to mounting distortion.
  4. Apply mounting force only to the ring being fitted; never transmit force through the balls.
  5. Specify lubricant, operating temperature, cleanliness, corrosion exposure and relubrication strategy.
  6. Confirm preload or operating clearance after fits, deformation and temperature effects are considered.
